Chiropractic Care in Joshua

Chiropractic is the science, art and philosophy of restoring normal positioning and motion to a joint, thus allowing proper nerve flow from the brain to each and every organ, tissue, and cell in the entire body. Chiropractic is based on the fact that the nervous system controls every and all of the functions of the body. When vital nerve communication is inhibited or interfered with by misaligned vertebrae or other bones pressure is placed on nerves that result in pain, numbness, and poor health. Chiropractors correct these misaligned vertebrae or bones that put pressure on nerves called subluxations.

What is a Subluxation?

A subluxation is when vertebrae in the spine lose their proper position due to a physical, emotional, mental, or chemical stress. Misalignment first occurs causing the occlusion of the opening at which a nerve exits, When the opening is occluded this puts pressure on the nerve and causes interference with the nerve thus inhibiting vital impulses and messages important for proper bodily function. The result is dysfunction of the joint and further dysfunction of the body's organs.

Take this for example, picture in your head a garden hose stretched across a vegetable garden. The hose carries water that is vital for the vegetables to grow. As long as the garden is supplied with enough water it will continue to grow and flourish. If the hose is pinched underneath the side of a stone the water supply will be insufficient. If the water supply doesn't meet the requirements of the garden the vegetables will wilt and even die. If the body's tissues, organs, and systems are not getting the nerve supply they need then your will fail to thrive as well.

Subluxations can cause many more problems than pain and muscle spasm because they can negatively affect your body's vital communication pathway (nerve pathways) for proper function.

Gonstead Method of Chiropractic

Our office utilizes the Gonstead Method of Chiropractic to locate and correct the cause of our patient's problems whatever they may be. The Gonstead System utilizes thermal instrumentation, motion palpation, visual posture assessment, and full spine x-ray to locate the cause of the problem. After the problem is located a Gonstead Chiropractor uses a specific and safe hands-on adjusting approach to correct the problem properly.

The Gonstead Method of Chiropractic was developed by Dr. Clarence S. Gonstead in the 1920's. Dr. Gonstead was a mechanical engineer prior to being a Chiropractor. After graduation from Chiropractic School he decided he could do Chiropractic better than he was taught if he could learn how to apply mechanical engineering principles to the spine and pelvis.
